I am a software engineer by profession and need an extra wide monitor for my new home office (it seems many of us have one today...). Full disclosure: I am NOT a gamer. I'm not playing games, I'm not interested in crazy frame rates and confusing image quality, and it's going to give you an understanding right now that this monitor could be no good for gaming.
This review is about the efficacy of the monitor for work (and in my case, reading and writing lots of code for 10-14 hours per day).
Setup:
That said, the monitor is primed for what I'm doing, which requires navigating a large ID, changing between tons of command prompts, exploring the text wall. I was surprised that literally zero configuration was required. When the monitor arrived, I was able to connect to my Dell Latitude and within 5 minutes had a convenient dual screen setup.
I haven't tried it along with my other machines (Macbook and Pixelbook), but no driver installation is needed so I'm asking they'll work right out of the box as well.
Quality:
The image quality understands and is actually quite good. With "pretty good", I mean I was able to scan over 10,000 lines of code and it was entirely easy to read and clear. I was able to test the pages of the site I was developing, and had no problem looking at the details and the small nuances that mattered.
It's not a super 'crispy' monitor, but do you really expect it along with this price?
I was confused along with complaints about brightness - there is a brightness setting against the monitor ... I would like to understand if those who write negative reviews are privy to it. The monitor could be very bright - I'd say it's in keeping with the full brightness of almost all standard computers in 2020.
Hardware:
The monitor is equipped with a stand - you are able to set the monitor across a single axis: pointing it up / down. It's fine for me; I can catch the angle I want. It looks like there's a mount in the rear member, but no hardware is included for this (and it's not promised anyway). It's sturdy, and it doesn't feel like it's going to hit my keyboard in close proximity, so I really like being with it.
The power adapter is a simple cable, no adapter or transformer or anything. This is good.
Consider yourself warned about the included connection cables – this VGA-to-VGA, which against its basis does not avail along with modern machines, and especially laptops. This monitor has HDMI input, so be sure to confiscate one of the connectors along with any connector style you need for your computer (e.g. HDMI-to-USB-C for newer Macbooks, HDMI-to-HDMI for Dell, etc.).
FINAL VERDICT:
Look, unless you need this for work or school, do it. This is a GOOD LEGITIMATE monitor, and I admit I was very skeptical when I bought this. I visited to get that along with this monitor, it is very not necessarily to use a bucket of money unless you NEED excellent resolution/ crisp images, either for gaming, or digital design. If not, buy this. Close a thousand other tabs from another monitor you've opened, and adequately select this one unless you feel you've got a similar need as I do – it's a real deal, it works, and it's brave enough to be good at fitting it.
I will update this review in 3,6 months to check in about monitor performance from fit to time.
